Martin Mistère, Diana Lombard (his eternal fiancèe) and Java, friend and assistant. In the background the Cathedral of San Giusto (Patron of Trieste) and the Castle of the same name, romanic remains.

Who is Martin Mistère?

Martin Mistère was born in New York on 26 June 1942. Got a degree in Antropology at Harvard University with a further Master at Sorbonne of Paris, degrees in History of Art at Istituto di Belle Arti in Florence (Italy) and in Cybernetics of language at MIT. Martin directed his wide knowledge to study several misteries (archeological and other kinds) of our planet. His first book, Mistère's Mysteries of the Past, published in 1978 has become an international bestseller, same as the other volumes; worth to mention, among those, Martin Mistère's Misterious Italy.
Famous also his TV talk-shows Mistère's Misteries.

And there's Java, friend and companion of his adventures, a Neanderthal man rescued during an exploration of Central Asia. Although able to express himself merely with grunts, understood only by the Detective of the Impossible, Java has proved himself as a "true friend" in many occasions and an exceptional companion in many dangerous situations, becoming more than the classic dumb partner of many cartoon heroes. Martin obtained Java's legal custody after a long legal fight and turned him into his faithful assistant.

During his investigations Martin often fights against enigmatic people (the Men in Black) who try to vanify every efforts to demonstrate that our reality hides aspects which contrast with the reassuring logic of Science like the Establishment wants us to see.

The enemy who is, however, worth of wider mention in the chronacles of the adventures of BVZM (Buon Vecchio Zio Martin - Good Old Uncle Martin) is Sergej Orloff, scientist himself and once friend of the Detective of the Impossible.
Martin shared many happy years of study with him in Italy and an adventure in the world of the High Priests in Central Asia.

A bit of gossip:

Martin Mistère, the charming and never-aging character, is also engaged with Diana Lombard who is not just his "belle" but a strong and will-powered person. Typical of any "real" person who share life with an intelligent man like Martin. Another singularity of Martin is the use, in many of his episodes, of one the first Apple computers, the glorious Plus, whose familiar shape is unmistakingly recognizable in some of his adventures.

Apple has never thanked the authors for this unofficial sponsoring, as far as I know... maybe Martin will use different computers now... ;-(

Enough of our heroe! Now let's talk about his authors:

The story-board author of all his stories is Alfredo Castelli, born in 1947, on the same day like Martin... Martin shares with his author a great passion towards lengthy conversations, a deep rooted curiosity for anything which is unusual, strange and mentally challenging.

Martin has been drawn by several excellent artists, most famous Giancarlo Alessandrini and Franco De Vescovi (who is also from Trieste like me and is the author of the picture above!).
