We would like to inform all our guests about the conditions under which the Housing Office operates in order to provide accommodation.

 

General Information on Accommodation at the Abdus Salam ICTP Guest Houses

The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics is located in Grignano - Miramare area in the Riviera of Trieste, about 7 Kilometres from the city of Trieste.

The best accommodation for visitors coming to the ICTP is the Galileo Guest House and the Adriatico Guest House. The Galileo Guest House is located on the hill behind the ICTP Main Building and close to the Enrico Fermi Building while the Adriatico Guest House overlooks the sea. If you are staying in either of these places, you are only a step away from the Centre, or practically "on campus".

In accordance with our administrative regulations, scientists whose expenses are covered by the ICTP receive priority for accommodation in our Guest Houses, particularly when there are several overlapping activities and will be booked with the type of accommodation specified in the Invitation Letter or in the Financial Annex.

Kindly note that accompanying family members can be accepted in our Guest House subject to availability. Any extra charges should be settled directly with the Reception. In case of unavailability of the Guest Houses, the Housing Office will help to arrange for accommodation in downtown Hotels.

Scientists visiting the Centre at their own expenses can be provided with accommodation in the ICTP Guest Houses if not fully booked, otherwise the Housing Office will help to arrange for accommodation in downtown Hotels.

In both categories, bookings are not automatic but made only upon receipt of the ACCOMMODATION FORM duly completed with all the necessary information.

Please note that the Guest Houses accept payments either in cash ( Euro currency ) or by Pos and by Credit Card (CARTASI MASTERCARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS,VISA BANKAMERICARD )

Private Accommodation

Private accommodation can be arranged for scientists visiting the A.S. ICTP for a period longer than 60 days or accompanied by family members.

  • ICTP procedures do not allow the Housing Office to accept the responsibility of renting apartments/rooms in advance or signing contracts on behalf of its visitors.
  • The ICTP Housing Office acts exclusively as a point of reference for our guests and for local apartment / room owners. Therefore, though the Housing Office tries to provide the best possible assistance in all matters concerning the rental of rooms/apartments, private accommodations are not under its direct control; their availability and costs are controlled by local market conditions.
  • The Housing Office has established a service of accompanying scientists to visit the apartments. This often helps initially to avoid language problems and, thereafter, in case of misunderstandings about their agreements, Housing Office personnel can act as an intermediary between owners and tenants.
