SENIOR POSTDOCTORAL
POSITION in THEORETICAL HIGH ENERGY PHYSICS

A Senior Postdoctoral position, named after Subramanyan Chandrasekhar,
will be available
in the Abdus Salam ICTP High Energy, Cosmology and Astroparticle
Physics Section for
the academic years 2011-2016. The appointment will be made
initially
for three years, with the possibility of an extension for two more
years, depending on mutual agreement and availability of funds.
The candidate is expected to have a proven record of independent
research and ability to collaborate with regular postdoctoral fellows,
as well as the senior members of the Section. The monthly take
home salary ranges from Euro 2,500 to Euro 3,000 and will depend on the
seniority of
the candidate. A travel grant to participate in scientific
meetings, a removal allowance and standard health insurance are also
included.
The
Group works is currently working on various
aspects of:
- M-theory and its
phenomenological aspects
- String theory,
D-branes
- Gauge theory/string
theory duality
- Topological field
theories
- Neutrino physics and
astrophysics
- Physics at LHC and
future colliders
- Phenomenology of
supersymmetry and
GUT's
- Flavour physics and
CP-violation
- Physics of extra
dimensions and modified theories of gravity
- Cosmology
- Physics
of
the early
Universe
The section presently
comprises 7 staff members and 10
postdoctoral researchers, as well as up to 200 other short- and
long-term
visitors per year. It is expected that 2 more staff members will join the Section within the next year. There is a close
collaboration
between ICTP scientists and the staff of the
International
School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), the Department of Theoretical
Physics
of Trieste University, and the physicists of the Trieste section of the
INFN. The group is also a member of the European network "Quest
for Unification" and is actively involved in the ATLAS experiment.
