SHORT DESCRIPTION
This teaching workshop provides an introduction to
computable general equilibrium (CGE) models for the analysis of environmental
and resource policies. There will also be special training sessions
as part of this program on social capital. The workshop will develop
step-by-step environmental CGE models that can be used in the scientific
and policy debate for the economic assessment of such policy initiatives.
The course will have many "hands-on" exercises in CGE modelling.
It is aimed at persons who are new to CGE and GAMS and its objectives
include:
1. To introduce the basic theory underlying CGE models.
2. To introduce the basic data sets underpinning CGE models
3. To improve participants' confidence with GAMS syntax, including
using sets, subsets and dollar operators.
4. To introduce the major approaches and key issues in environmental
CGE modeling.
5. To give ample opportunity for students to generate simple models
and solve them using GAMS.
6. To interpret and report the model's results.
By the end of the course, each participant should be able to design,
implement, solve and interpret the results of small static CGE models.
The workshop is intended for people in the scientific and business
community (universities, research centers, consulting companies) as
well as people in administration (ministries) that are drawn from
eastern, central and southern Africa.
