Ionospheric variations during geomagnetic activities:
A case study (*)
Emmanuel A. Ariyibi
Department of Physics, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile –Ife, Nigeria
Summary.
The study of the equatorial ionosphere is of great interest to the
international scientific community, hence the deployment of the GPS
receiver station to OAU Ife. The GPS equipment has been operational for
more than a year. In the seminar Dr Ariyibi will provide data and
results in order to explain the ionospheric variations during the
recent geomagnetic activities, as observed from the station.
Biodata. Dr Emmanuel A. Ariyibi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of
Physics, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile –Ife, Nigeria. He
currently coordinates the activities at The Earth and Space Physics
Research Laboratory in the Department and he also oversees the data
operation of the SCINDA NovAtel GSV 4004B GPS receiver station. The
instrumentation was kindly donated to the Laboratory by the Boston
College and by the ICTP. Dr Ariyibi’s research interest is focused on
the area of Geomagnetism and Applied Geophysics.
