e-Collaboration - Ways II

... Lot of Ways!

Caution: Test things early to see if you have the in house ability and resources so a useful service results

For example, Check, think of ...

  • Authentication and access to files (firewalls?)
  • DNS - Domain Name System (dedicated servers?)
  • Email: This is a non-trivial contribution and remains the most useful of collaboration tools.
SMTP config, POP vs. IMAP, e-mail reader selection
  • Listservers: (Moderated?, low-noise)
  • WWW servers: Generic information distribution How do authors of information will get to the server (NFS, Samba, Netatalk -package for Unix machine to supply Appletalk print and file services on a LAN, ...)
    Security of the server (cgi's?)
issues of proxy and load balancing, etc
  • Database services (both WWW gateway or x-graphics)
  • Audio/Video servers ( is this needed?, QoS? )
  • Support (human and computer based)
... Still many problems!
