The Fund for Hunger was created in 1984 when

the late Professor Abdus Salam (founder of ICTP)

appealed to staff, consultants and visiting

scientists of ICTP to create a Fund in order to

have a small amount of money set aside for urgent

emergencies, wherever they might occur.

Il fondo per la fame è stato creato nel 1984 come

risultato di un appello speciale fatto dal

compianto professor Abdus Salam (fondatore del

Centro di Fisica Teorica Internazionale) a tutto il

personale, consulenti e scienziati per avere a

disposizione alcuni piccole somme disponibili per

le emergenze  in qualsiasi posto del mondo queste possano sorgere.

Since then, ICTP staff have been contributing regularly by  having a small amount

deducted from their monthly salary. At the same time scientists visiting ICTP started

contributing to the Fund. At present the monthly contribution from ICTP staff  amounts

to Euro 1,300.

Da quel tempo ICTP il personale si è prestato a contribuire con una detrazione mensile

di parte del loro stipendio. Allo stesso tempo gli scienziati che visitano ICTP hanno

anch'essi cominciato a contribuire al Fondo. Attualmente il contributo mensile dal

personale del Centro di Fisica Teorica ammonta ad Euro 1,300.

We are doing our best to pursue Professor Abdus Salam's ideals in this respect and we

are constantly searching and reviewing possible beneficiaries.

Personalmente speriamo di seguire gli ideali di Abdus Salam in questo contesto e siamo

costantemente alla ricerca e alla verifica di possibili beneficiari.

Thanks go to all our contributors and to all those who are constantly increasing the sum

they contribute, thus demonstrating how much we, at ICTP, are aware of the needs in the

Third World countries.
