Workshops

The ICTP RegCNET workshops, both at the ICTP and in EDNs, create a forum for scientists from EDNs and EANs to present and discuss their research, as well as to introduce new scientists to the theory and application of regional climate and impacts modeling through lectures and hands-on training sessions. The international participation promotes mutually beneficial interactions for all scientists (both EDN and EAN). The workshops hosted in EDNs generate a greater sense of ownership and enthusiasm in the collaborative effort by identifying research questions and problems of specific interest to the region. In addition, they are important for understanding and addressing local infrastructural problems faced by the EDN scientists.

Research Projects

To help ameliorate scientific isolation of EDN scientists, one of the primary aims of the RegCNET is the development of research projects designed and led by EDN scientists and involving participants that have a wide range of scientific experience. The ICTP Physics of Weather and Climate (PWC) group sponsors visits to work on some of these projects.  An important measure of the success of the RegCNET is publication of scientific results in internationally peer-reviewed journals. Projects identified during the ICTP June 2003 kickoff workshop resulted in the upcoming publication of a special RegCNET issue of Theoretical and Applied Climatology.
